When Will Coronavirus 2 Pandemic End? Facts & Figures

There is no doubting the fact that the emergence of coronavirus pandemic has held every country to a standstill. It has made lots of headlines since the month of February, claiming over 300,000 lives and infecting more than 4 million people in various parts of the world according to Wikipedia. As explained by most experts, this is the worst pandemic that mankind has experienced since the end of World War 2.
Lots of people have been asking series of questions about when this pandemic will end. If you are amongst such people, you’ve come to the right place. This is because the major aim of this post is to share facts about when it will come to an end based on proven figures and stats.
When is it ending?
In February 2020, there was panic and tension in most of the developed countries like US, Italy, Spain, Canada, France, and UK. As the mortality rate was quite high, COVID-19 spread fear amongst people and their respective. Governments of these countries couldn’t find an effective way of containing it. This led to the decision of lockdown in some of the countries as economic, religious and social activities were put on hold to avoid any further spread of the virus.
Although this was effective to some extent, it came at a price where countries experienced contracting economies. According to France24, the economy of France experienced a drop by around 6% after the first quarter of 2020. The economy of Germany has also experienced a contraction rate of 2.2% within the same timeframe. The US isn’t exempted from this problem as it had experienced a staggering increase in unemployment rate which is reported to be around 14.7% as of the April.
Where do these facts lead us?
Due to the economic implication of the lockdown, governments decided to allow their citizens to engage in business activities to ensure they can find a way to bounce back economically. Of course, a decision like this was inevitable given the fact their economies were bleeding already. However, the implications have been costly as there has increased rate of infected cases. This is evident in a country like Lebanon which decided to ease the lock down after some weeks. However, increased rate of infection is beginning to make the government reconsider the option of imposing another lockdown.
Wuhan, where it all started from, decided to kick start business activities after a lockdown which lasted for about 76 days. However, infection rates have started rising again. This has made the government to consider the option of making 12 million people living in the city undergo tests to know their coronavirus status.
The conclusion
Based on what the world is experiencing at the moment and facts shown above, I am of the opinion that this pandemic is now part of mankind. The world powers are struggling to find a cure. The only company that has claimed that a vaccine can be developed is Sanofi, a French pharmaceutical establishment. However, they pointed out that a vaccine can only be ready in 2021. This means we should be prepared to live in fear of not getting infected for the next one year. This is in line with a statement released by UNO in the month of May, pointing out that the only way of getting rid of this virus is through vaccine. This pandemic won’t be ending anytime soon.
